Stop-motion Residence of Tarusa 2021

The Academy of Animation Art named after F.S. Khitruk announces the recruitment of animators to participate in the first educational project – a residence in the stop-motion technique in Tarusa.

Within the framework of the project, the Academy recruits a team of students from specialized universities and schools, as well as young professionals (18-35 years old), who, under the guidance of experienced curators, make a finished animated film on a common theme invented by the curators, passing all the stages of work from the idea of the cartoon to its production.

The selection of participants is based on the results of the competition. To participate in the competition, you must have a basic level of animation, a portfolio and a motivation letter. Applications for the creative competition are accepted until June 30. To participate in the creative competition, you must fill out the portfolio form available at the link. Program of the residence:

  • As part of the residence, participants will create an animation project (film) lasting up to 1 minute (each group) in the stop-motion technique. On the last day of the residence, films will premiere on the big screen at the House of Writers in Tarusa;
  • All participants will be provided with technical equipment: cameras, tripods, light panels, projectors, sound recorders, computers;
  • Stay in the residence includes training and advanced training (production of a cartoon in a short time), accommodation and meals, participation in joint events, excursions, lectures, screenings, work on group projects. It is planned to visit the museums of Tarusa, the estate in Polenovo.

Yura Boguslavsky

Director-animator, artist, screenwriter, teacher. A graduate of the School-studio “SHAR”. The author of the cartoons “The last Sip”, “Ships of the years past “, “Someone Pasha Boguslavsky”, “Quarantine”. Member of the creative group “Invisible Friends”. Co-founder of the “Animation Workshop”, curator of the online educational platform Animation and Me. Leads educational programs on animation at the Big Cartoon Festival, teaches animation at the Higher School of Economics.

Vasily Chirkov

Director-animator, member of the creative group “Invisible Friends”, co-founder of the “Animation Workshop” and Courses of Animators. Author of the cartoons “Other Shores”, “Wind,” From Bull to Letter”, “Quarantine”, etc.

Ilya Yudovich

Director and artist of animated films, teacher. He graduated from the Smolny College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in St. Petersburg with a degree in Visual Arts and the Moscow School of New Cinema, Dmitry Mamuliy’s workshop with a degree in film director. He is working on the full-length animated film “My Heart”, as an artist and director. Co-founder and teacher of the “Animation Workshop”. Teacher of experimental courses “Kinoplastika”, “Photo in motion”, “Animation and noise laboratory”. Specialist in compositing and post-production in animated films.

 
Participation fee

Participation in the residence is paid: the cost is 15 thousand rubles (the price includes meals, accommodation, travel from Moscow to Tarusa and back, and participation in all programs of the residence). According to the results of the competition, two free seats will be provided.

 
Dates of the event

Check-in (Tarusa) – August 13. The residence is open from August 14 to 22. August 22-closing party and cultural program. Departure of participants (from Tarusa) – August 23.

The choice of location for the residence is not accidental. Tarusa is an ancient and picturesque city near Moscow, where the festival movement of Russian animation began.

It is planned that the residence in Tarusa will become a regular event, a new place of power and a laboratory for finding new forms and meanings in modern animation.
