«The Nose» won the Grand Prix at the Suzdal

The full-length film “The Nose or the Conspiracy of Mavericks” by Andrey Khrzhanovsky, a People’s Artist of the Russian Federation and laureate of various state awards, received the Grand Prix of the the Open Russian Festival of Animated Films in Suzdal. The results were summed up on Sunday.

“The jury, which was invited by the organizing committee of the festival, on the basis of a complete viewing of all the films presented in the competition program, awarded “The Nose or the Conspiracy of Mavericks” (directed by Andrey Khrzhanovsky) with the Grand Prix prize”, -said in the organizing committee, and noted that this year the jury decided not to award a special prize for the best feature film.

The feature-length drawn film, which won the Grand Prix, is based on Nikolai Gogol’s novel “The Nose” and the opera “The Nose”, which was written by a composer Dmitry Shostakovich. The main characters of the film were writers Nikolai Gogol and Mikhail Bulgakov, director Vsevolod Meyerhold and composer Dmitry Shostakovich, as people who were ahead of their time and had fearlessness to go against the tide.

Special jury prizes were given to the films “Behind the Fence” (directed by Maria Kogan-Lerner), “Naked” (directed by Kirill Khachaturov), and “Vadim on a Walk” (directed by Sasha Svirsky).

Other nominations

The work “Ba” (directed by Svetlana Filippova) was recognized as the best professional short film. Diplomas in the same nomination were also given to “10000 ugly inkblots” (directed by Dmitry Geller), “Oh, no!” (directed by Ivan Maksimov), “Life is a bastard” (directed Varvara Yakovleva).

Prize for the best film for children was given to “Cornstalk” (directed by Anastasia Zhakulina). The jury also awarded with diplomas other two movies for children – “The Fireman” (directed by Yulia Aronova) and “The White Snake” (directed by Polina Fedorova).

The film “Pishto’s Birthday” (directed by Sofia Kendel) was recognized as the best debut, and the film “Wet Socks of Bertha Reise” (directed by Alexandra Shadrina) received a diploma in this nomination.

The prize in the category of best student film went to “Dogs Smell of the Sea” (directed by Anastasia Lisovets). Diplomas were also given to “From Under the Ground” (directed by Maria Afonina, Anna Lyubimtseva) and “You are not a Kiwi” (directed by Maria Savelyeva).

The prize for the best series was given to the episode “Lullaby” from the cycle “Square Printed Zebra” (directed by Tatiana Chernilevskaya). A diploma in this nomination was given to “Being an Armadillo” from the cycle “Lex and Plu. Space Taxi Drivers” (directed by Alexey Minchenok).
The best work in applied animation -“Pandemic” (directed by Polina Campioni). Diplomas were given to “Bouquet from Fireworks” (directed by Alexey Budovsky) and “Gravity” (directed by Svetlana Nagaeva).

The Guild of Cinema Experts and Critics of the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation awarded its prize to the film “10000 ugly inkblots” (directed by Dmitry Geller) – the same film became the leader of the professional rating.
